Obituary

Richard "Dick" Hoglo, 78, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at the church on Wednesday. Richard Raymond Hoglo was born at home on March 9, 1934 in East Grand Forks, MN the son of William Henry and Marion Elizabeth (Raymond) Hoglo. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and confirmed at St. Charles Catholic Church near Trail, MN. Richard attended the Windsor Country School near Gonvick, MN through the eighth grade. The family moved to Thief River Falls in 1948 and following school, Dick worked for various farmers in the East Grand Forks area. Then he went to work for Agsco for one summer building steel Quonsets for farmers, then Jung's Bakery for a short time and later, Dick started selling meat for Joppru Meats. On December 12, 1956, Dick entered in to service with the United States Army. He was stationed at Frankfurt, Germany and Honorably Discharged on December 8, 1958. Dick was very proud to serve his country. Following his military service, Dick returned to Thief River Falls and continued working for Joppru Meats. On January 9, 1960 Dick was united in marriage to Vonnie Jean Lull at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union four sons were born, Tony, Tracy, Todd & Troy. He continued working at Joppru Meats for a few years and then went to work in the warehouse at Hartz Foods eventually becoming one of their truck drivers. Dick later went to work for Thygeson Construction and after a short time purchased a truck from them and started his own business in the mid-1970s. He called it Dick Hoglo Trucking. He logged over 4 ½ million miles and made his last trip on November 4, 2012. Dick loved truckinghe also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards especially with his grandkids. He is a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #117, the 40 et 8, life-time member of Agassiz Rod & Gun Club, and a 57 year member of the Eagle's Club. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Vonnie of Thief River Falls; 4 children, Tony (Mary) Hoglo, Tracy (Cindy) Hoglo, Todd (LouAnn) Hoglo and Troy (Sara) Hoglo all of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren, Sophia, Trisha, Kelsey, Lindsey, Chad, Shawn, Ryan, Trevor, Kayleen, Gavin & Tessa; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Brynn, Ashton, Jackson & Aiva; siblings, Bill (Sharon) Hoglo of Thief River Falls, Jan (Wally) Lamb of Warren, MN and Candy Olson of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Deloris Hoglo of Thief River Falls; and many special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bob Hoglo and Gene (Jane) Hoglo.
