Richard Peterson, 73, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at First Care Medical Services Hospital in Fosston, MN.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Tim McGee presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the Funeral Home on Saturday.

Richard Dale Peterson was born on June 13, 1932 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Carl Stigen and Helen Reed. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith and attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. Following High school Richard entered the United States Army and served his country in the Korean Conflict.

Richard was united in marriage to Betty Owen and to this union six children were born, Steve, Jan, James, Jeannie, Todd and LeeAnn. On March 11, 1967 he married Janet Delap in Thief River Falls. The couple resided in Thief River Falls. Richard worked as a conductor and brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad.

Richard enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing and loved to travel.

He was a member of the Eagles, VFW and the American Legion of Thief River Falls.

Richard is survived by four children: Jan Engelstad of Thief River Falls, MN, James Peterson of Aurora, CO, Todd Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN and LeeAnn (Jim) Carlson of Richland, WA; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two uncles, Bob (Patsy) Reed and Bill (Donna) Reed, both of Thief River Falls, MN..

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Reed Peterson; one son, Steven Peterson; and one daughter, Jeannie Thompson.
