Robert Alfred Bredeson was born November 27, 1918 to Alfred and Naomi (Johnson) Bredeson, in Thief River Falls. He grew up and was educated in the local school system, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1936.
Bob worked as a social service caseworker for the Pennington County Welfare Office until the breakout of World War II, when he was drafted and sent to Fort Leonard Wood for basic training. Bob was then united in marriage to Florence Yvonne Anderson in July 1941 and they moved to Camp Barkley, TX for his Army Infantry training.
Bob became a soldier of the U.S. Army 90th Infantry Division and participated in the Normandy landing, Utah Beach, until the breakout at St. Lo France, when the 90th became a part of General Pattons 3rd Army. He participated in the Ardennes during the Bulge, through the Rhineland and Central Europe to the Czechoslovakian border, until the cessation of hostilities in Europe. Bob then returned to the U.S. and was separated from active duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin in October 1945.
For his involvement, Bob was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, three over seas bars and Good Conduct Medal.
In 1947, Bob opened Bredeson Cleaners in Thief River Falls and operated this until 1984, when he went into semi-retirement. Then involved himself with Bredeson Office Supply and as Finance Officer for the American Legion Post 117, Thief River Falls.
During his years in business, Bob served in community service capacities. Chairman, building committee American Legion, 1947; Chamber of Commerce-Life Member, 1985, School District 564 Board, 1960-1964.
Bob is a member of the American Legion, 90th Division Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, Northern Lodge Masons, Odd Fellows and the Republican Party.
Bob is survived by Yvonne, his wife of 62 years, Thief River Falls; sons, Robert (Diane), Mesa, Arizona, and Rolf, Thief River Falls; grandsons, Andy at UND-Grand Forks and Allen Langlie, Thief River Falls; niece Jean (Cockrell) Williams (Tom), Thief River Falls, Susan (Bredeson) Bracht, Tempe, Arizona.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Naomi, brothers, Wayne and James, sisters, Ann Theoline and Ruth. And, infant daughter Kathleen Adair Bredeson.
