Robert Brooten Thief River Falls, MN age 90 died peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday at church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 117, VFW Post 2793 and the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard. Robert N. Brooten was born on January 11, 1925 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Ole Brooten and Clara Rustabakke. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Bob graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 1942. On September 27, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Gwendolyn Guenin at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. During World War II, Robert served in the army as a paratrooper. He made many lifelong friends there. Robert returned to Thief River Falls and worked in the office equipment business, originally called Grundys, which later became Tony Dorn Inc., until he retired in 2012. Together, Bob and Gwen owned the Riverside Grocery Store in Thief River Falls for about ten years. Bob was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #117 in Thief River Falls. Bob enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling the country and had the opportunity to visit most of the 50 states and many friends along the way. Survivors include grandchildren, Kristen (Walt) Zimmer of Sugar Grove, IL; Keith Lehr of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Haley and Hayden Zimmer; and son-in-law, Chuck Lehr of Charlotte. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gwen in 2007; daughter, Vicki Lehr in 2012; his parents; and siblings Roland, Norma, Corrine, Thelma, and Lawrence.
