Robert Jerome Davidson was born March 31, 1930 in Thief River Falls, MN son of Hilmer and Anna (Sorter) Davidson. He was baptized and confirmed at Ringbo Church in Holt MN. He attended Ringbo school grades K-8 and then attended Newfolden High school. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis prior to entering the United States Army on October 23, 1952. He did his basic training in Fort Still, Oklahoma. Robert served in Korea until his honorable discharge on August 12, 1955.
On August 4, 1958, Robert was united in marriage to Darlene (Dolly) Dahl and they made their home in Thief River Falls, MN. They built their first home that same year along the airport road, where they raised their six children. In 1978, they moved into their earth covered home along highway 59 which was built by the students learning carpentry from the local technical college. Robert and Dolly continued to live and enjoy their home throughout the remainder of their lives.
Robert was born into a well drilling family. As soon as he was old enough to hold a pipe wrench, he was working. In 1958, Robert started Davidson Well Drilling. He owned and operated until his retirement in 1999. Robert continued to go on well calls with his son Bobby until well into his 80's.
During his younger years, he enjoyed trapping with his father, fishing, hunting up until he got the "big buck" and spending time at the cabin in Ontario, Canada. Robert was an avid reader, historian and a professional musician. He played clarinet in the Ninth District Legion Band. He also played accordion and piano in many other bands with other talented musicians. His passion was flying and many fishing trips consisted of flying into remote locations where the lakes have no names. He was very adventurous and a great story teller. He was a man with a heart of gold giving geeks and talking baby talk. His grandkids called him "Gramps" and a great grandfather he was. Robert loved nothing more than to spend time with family and friends.
Robert was a member of the American Legion, Ninth District Legion Band, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. He was grateful for the Veterans Administration for their medical care throughout his life.
