Robert Flaten Oklee, MN 54, died on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10:30AM in Oak Park Lutheran Church rural Oklee, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson Officiating. Burial will be held Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM at Freedom Living Center in Oklee. Visitation will be held on Friday one hour prior to services at the church. Robert Dwayne Flaten was born September 27, 1959 at Fairbault, MN son of Carl A. and Lorraine (Schaffer) Flaten. He was raised in the Fairbault area, at a young age his mother passed away. He moved to Thief River Falls where he lived with his aunt and uncle Helge and Clara. He moved to foster home and lived with Orlando and Helen Chervestad. He was baptized and confirmed at Oak Park Lutheran Church. He graduated from Oklee High School in 1980. Robert worked at the DAC. He enjoyed being with friends and family and enjoyed his dog. He also enjoyed being on the farm with Lana and her family, helping with the dairy operation and field work working beside his brother Kory. His pride and joy was his 1975 pickup he purchased from Oliver Hofstad. In 1981 Robert was diagnosed with Lymphoma of the brain. He continued to live on the farm. He will be missed by everyone he touched and new. He enjoyed being an uncle. Robert enjoyed playing cards, collecting cans, listening to music on the radio. He loved to visit with family and friends. He made sure he went to church every Sunday. In 2004 he moved to Brad Nelson's home and since 2010 he enjoyed living at the freedom Living Center in Oklee. He is survived by his siblings; Betty (Dennis) Erickson of Warroad, MN; Barb (Gary) Anderson of Thief River Falls, MN; Carl Flaten of Stockton, CA and Roger (Marlene) Flaten of Crookston, MN: Korydon (Carol) Chervestad of Oklee, MN and Lana (Brad) Nelson of Oklee, MN several nieces and nephews.
