He attended NDSU until enlisting in the United States Air Force National Guard. Bob attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant, after serving five years, part of which was in Japan and Korea. Bob was united in marriage to Eunice Johnson on April 29, 1947, and they had three children, Gary, Nancy, and Julie.

Bob was Vice President at Union State Bank and Norwest Bank in Thief River Falls. He owned Flynn Realty until his retirement in 1989.

Bob had a lifetime membership in the Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce and served on the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC). He was instrumental in the development of Northland Community and Technical College. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks and was named Elk of the Year in 1975 and 1977. He was a member of the VFW, Eagles, Trinity Lutheran Church, and a 50 year member of the American Legion.

Bobs favorite past time was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing at his cabin on Lake of the Woods and golfing and hunting, before his health began to fail. He loved playing cribbage with his Buddies at the Elks Club and was an avid sports fan. Bob will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
