Robert LeRoy Pahlen was born on July 26, 1939 in Crookston, MN the son of Leo and Elayne (Brekke) Pahlen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Bob attended St. Bernard's and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

Following school, Bob moved to Yakima, WA where he began work as a meat cutter. After a couple of years, he returned to Thief River Falls and worked at Joppru Meats.

On August 13, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Beverly Braaten at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. They made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union two wonderful children, Timothy and Jodi. The family moved to St. Paul, MN where Bob worked for a short time as a meat cutter before returning to Plummer, MN where he purchased the Plummer Locker Plant in 1963. In 1964 they purchased a farm a mile north of Plummer where they raised cattle, chickens, pigs, a goose named, Dandruff and farmed small grains and hay.

In the early 1970's, Bob sold the locker plant and started Bob's Sand & Gravel . In 1975, he started Pahlen Construction with his dad, Leo which he owned and operated for many years. In 1999, Bob suffered a major stroke which ended his working career. Bob remained at home on the farm where his dedicated wife cared for him until 2017.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing snowmobiles in the 1970's for Arctic Cat and teaching his children how to ride and race.  Bob loved time with his grandchildren whether it be teaching them how to fish, tube down the river behind the farm or going for rides in his construction equipment. Bob was a jokster who had a great sense of humor. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed listening to his music. Bob enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and will be forever missed!
