Rodney Byklum of Grygla, MN age 66 died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 while doing what he loved, fishing at Lake Of The Woods with his buddies. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be held at Our Saviour's Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church. Rodney Doyle Byklum was born on July 20, 1948 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of John and Myrtle (Newhouse) Byklum. He was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran faith and confirmed in 1963 at Grace Lutheran Church. Rodney attended grade school in Grygla, MN and high school in Goodridge, MN. On June 17, 1967, Rodney was united in marriage to Avis Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They lived for a short time in Grygla, Thief River Falls, and Goodridge before making their home in Grygla, MN in 1972 where they have since resided. To this union two children were born Brian and Dawn. He worked at the Farmers Union elevator in Thief River Falls, MN and worked for a number of years at All-State Paving. Rodney has worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic with Holthusen Construction for the last 20 years. Rodney had a passion for ice fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and going to the casino. Survivors include his son, Brian Byklum of Goodridge, MN; daughter, Dawn Byklum Archibald of Grygla, MN; mother of his children, Avis Byklum of Grygla, MN; grandchildren, Cody Archibald and Kendra Byklum;grandchildren of the heart, Ethan and Logan Vettleson and Trenton Olson; siblings, LaVonne Delaney of Sacramento, CA, JoAnn (Duane) Hovet of Shawnee, WI, twin sister, Lois (Don) Dodd of Detroit Lakes, MN, Ronald (Nancy) Byklum of Grygla, MN, Duane (Rosalie) Byklum of Fargo, ND; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Upton; great-nephew, Skyler Nordby.
