Roger Helm, 76, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Oakland Park Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.

Roger Luverne Helm was born in Crookston, MN on October 16, 1940, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Owens) Helm. He attended country school through the eighth grade.

On October 14, 1961, Roger was united in marriage to Ruth Solvik on his Dad's farm near Angus, MN. To this union a son, Matthew was born on June 12, 1969.

He entered into service with the United States Navy on April 15, 1966. Roger went to construction school in Rhode Island. He spent thirteen months in Vietnam and also spent over one year in Japan. Roger was Honorably Discharged on October 26, 1969.

After Roger returned from his military duty, the family made their home on a farm near Newfolden, MN. They also lived in Oregon. Roger drove milk truck, tractor and combine.

Roger and Ruth enjoyed traveling with their travel trailer. He also liked to garden, hunt deer, walk in the woods, play guitar and spend time outside.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Dennis Helm and Ronald (Sue) Helm all of Newfolden, MN; sister-in-law, Betty Helm; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Matthew; parents; grandparents; brother, William Helm; and sister-in-law, Norma Helm.
