Ron died on January 25,2007, in California at the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital, from complications of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).
His journey began January 15, 1945 with his identical twin brother, Richard, at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN. They were born to Axel and Ida (Levang) Sund, completing a family of 3 girls.
The twins began singing as soon as they could talk, winning several talent contests in the area. At age 13, they got a guitar and the rest is history. They sang and entertained wherever they went, their signature songs were Heartache By The Numbers and Tom Dooley, favorites of everyone who listened to them.
Ronald was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Goodridge. He was schooled in Grygla and Goodridge before entering the Army.
From 1963 to 1967 Ron (and Rick) served our country in the U.S. Army stationed mostly in Germany. They started their own band in Germany, called The Desert Dusters , entertaining their fellow soldiers and locals.
Ron entertained and touched many people in Victor Valley and Southern CA, professionally recording Tears & Alibis, during that time. For years at the San Bernadino County Fair you could hear for your entertainment tonight", Ron Sund and The Ruff Edges .
His loving wife Kathy survives, daughter, Lori Luisi, her two girls Sara and Julie, of Hesperia, CA., son Jason, companion Melody, and their three sons Corey, Taylor and William, of Monticello, MN, stepson Kenneth, his children Deanna and Heather, stepdaughter Karen and her son Tab, sisters, Eileen (Walter) Hillman, Warren, MN, Wylma (Earl) Allen, Minot, ND, several cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his father (April 1959), his mother (November 1986). Rons twin Rickie died (January 27,1997) sister Edith Heden (October 2000). His twin children Ronnie and Roxie preceded Ron in death.
