Rose Gagner, 94, of Red Lake Falls and Brooks, MN died on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2000 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Brooks.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Rose Anna Mercil was born January 27, 1905 in Garnes Township, Red Lake County, MN near Oklee daughter of the late Joseph and Adilide (LaFave) Mercil. She moved to a farm West of Brooks with her family at a young age where she was raised and attended Poplar River rural School. Rose attended St. Joseph Academy in Crookston for two years where she became a seamstress. On November 24, 1924 she was united in marriage to Robert Gagner at Lambert, MN. The couple purchased a farm North of Brooks, MN where they resided for 54 years. They moved into Brooks in 1980 where she resided until February 1, 1991 when she entered the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Rose was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks and was active in the ladies of St. Anns Society. She worked for the Inter County Nursing as a home health worker for a time. Rose enjoyed gardening and sewing, liked to cook and was at her best when she was taking care of sick people.
Rose is survived by her children Mae Wichterman (Louis) of Kimball, MN; Angela Stone (William) of Champlin, MN; Mary Lou Cyr of Grafton, ND; Rolland Gagner (Nancy) of Erskine, MN; Barb LaCoursiere (Vern) of Tucson, AZ; Robert Jr. Gagner (Kathy) of Rathdrum, ID; Clarence Gagner (Dianne) of Brooks, MN; Michael Gagner (Ronalee) of Otis Orchard, WA and Ritchie Poncho Gagner (Char) of Brooks, MN: 37 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. One sister Mary Fournier of Crookston, MN and two brothers Wilfred Mercil (Gladys) of Colorado Springs, CO and Ralph Mercil of St. Paul, MN.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert on October 14, 1996; three sons Medore Gagner, Jerome Gagner and Freddie Gagner. One great-granddaughter Ashley Stone Hennek: son-in-law Vernon Cyr and three brothers Leon Mercil, Medore Mercil and Louis Mercil; one sister Leah Jewett.
