Roy W. Anderson, 88, died on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at CNC unit of the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 4, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be Goodridge Cemetery, Goodridge, MN.

Visitation will be from 5-8, Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Roy W. Anderson was born on November 30, 1917, the son of Ben M. and Amelia (Sundberg) Anderson, on the family farm home in Beltrami County, near Grygla, MN. He attended West Spruce Grove Country School in Spruce Grove Township, Beltrami County, MN. As a young man he farmed with his dad, and logged in the Fourtown, MN area where he operated a sawmill. He worked for Herb Holthusen running a drag line. During WWII he cut and hauled cattails to make life vests for the military. Roy drove school bus for both the Grygla and Goodridge school districts.

Roy was united in marriage to Carol B. Jones on November 18, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI. He worked forging steel for Interstate Drop Forge Co. in Milwaukee for awhile. They moved back to Goodridge, MN and raised seven children on their dairy farm. He loved to hunt and fish, he enjoyed whittling and carving diamond willow canes and lamps, and also loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He served on the board of directors on Farmers Seed and Grain Elevator in Thief River Falls and the Grygla Farmers Union Oil Company and was assessor for Moylan Township, Marshall County, MN.

Roy is survived by his wife, Carol of Goodridge, MN; seven children: Eileen (Jim) Smeby of Mentor, MN, Ida (David) Hoppe of Crookston, MN, Bruce (special friend, Desiree Konickson) Anderson of Goodridge, MN, Susan (Steve) Saurdiff of Grygla, MN, Dale (Patty) Anderson of Goodridge, MN, Jane Manzey of Delano, MN and Bernice Anderson of Michigan, ND; 21 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Marie DeVries of Puposky, MN; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Amelia (Millie) Anderson; sister, Lillian Hanson and granddaughter, Amy Schroeder.
