Roy Nurmi Plummer, MN, age 86, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 of natural causes at his home near Plummer, MN. Graveside service will be held at 9:00AM on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Finnish Cemetery near Plummer, MN with Reverend Jonathan Dodson Officiating. A time of lunch and fellowship will be held following the graveside service. Roy Rayno Nurmi, 86, was born in Painesville, Ohio son of the late Frank H and Fanny (Kuusisto) Nurmi on December 16, 1926. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith, at a young age he moved with his parents to Plummer, MN from Ohio. He attended school in Plummer and continued to work with his dad raising mink, farming, raising dairy cattle and registered beef cattle. He worked for the Plummer Creamery for a number of years, for Benson Road Construction on one of the highways being from Baudette to Wheelers Point and worked a number of years at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston until his retirement. He was known for his good heartedness, creativity, mechanically minded and always ready to help anyone in need. If he would have a stubborn streak, he would give it some thought and see it the other person's way. One of his enjoyments was going to Rollag with friends, he loved antique machinery especially the tractors, he bought several over the years and his challenge was to see if he could get them running. Roy is survived by his sister Viola (Larry) Bruggeman of Brooks, MN; nieces and nephews Larry Jr. of Denning, WA, Kelan of Oklee, MN Lynette (Richard) Haugen of Thief River Falls, MN Kris of Brooks, MN, Alan (Rose) of Oklee, MN, Ross (Valerie) of Terrebonne, MN and Janell (Jay) Pelland of Warroad, MN; 20 great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Julia, Nephew Joel Bruggeman and grandparents, several aunts and uncles.
