Obituary


Ruby Sandberg, 91, died on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls,

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, July 26, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Gary Barrett officiating. Burial will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Upsala Cemetery, near Detroit Lakes, MN.

Visitation will be Monday Noon to 2 PM at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls.

Ruby Kathleen Schram was born March 7, 1919 in Ottertail County, MN, in a log house near Vergas, MN, the daughter of Jeremiah and Anna Amanda (Rudolph) Schram. She attended Country School and grew to adulthood near Detroit Lakes, MN. Rubys mother died when Ruby was 16 years old and Ruby stayed home to help take care of the family. She was from a family of 11 children.

Ruby was united in marriage to Elworth Johnston Sandberg, May 11, 1938 in a Lutheran church in Detroit Lakes. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes for about one year, before moving to Crookston, MN, where they lived until 1977. When living in Crookston, Ruby worked at Golf Terrace Motel for 13 years. They retired to the Bagley, MN area for 13 years. Elworth died in 1993 and Ruby moved back to Crookston and lived on her sons farm for four years, before moving to Riverside Terrace Apartments in Thief River Falls in 1997.

Ruby raised five children. She was an avid reader who has read almost every book in the library. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, picking berries and canning, and made wonderful pies.

Ruby is survived by four children: Robert (Jane) Sandberg, Crookston, MN, Diane (Glenn) Lucas, Enid, MS, Michael Sandberg, California and Jennifer Reigstad, Newfolden, MN; 13 grandchildren: Michelle (Joe) Sorman, Roseville, MN, David (Jana) Isaac, Pine Springs, MN, Diane (Mike) Hanna, Maplewood, MN, Merry Isaac, Roseville, MN, Chris (Sharman) Sandberg, Oreana, IL, Kimberly (John) Onnen, Barnesville, MN, Denise (Mike) Turner, Eufala, AL, Glenn (Tim Pratt) Lucas II, Atlanta, GA, Rachel Sandberg, San Francisco, CA, Bryan (Kristin) Maurstad, Newfolden, MN, Matthew Maurstad, Newfolden, MN, Amanda Woinarowicz, Thief River Falls, MN, 25 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother Robert Schram, Detroit Lakes, MN, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elworth; one daughter, Kathleen Isaac; her parents; granddaughter Erika Olson, 3 sons in law Ronald Isaac, Dennis Maurstad, Arnold Reigstad, 9 siblings, Ann Dahlin, Florence Anderson, Floyd Schram, Isabelle Green, Ed Schram, Clare Schram, Lawrence Schram, Peggy Nertney, and Lila Robertson.
