Ruby Hannah Schroeder, 97, of St. Hilaire, MN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 27, 2023.
The service to celebrate Ruby's life will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Kent Hudson will officiate. Burial will be at the Holmes Methodist Cemetery, Holmes, ND.
Ruby was born in Aberdeen, SD on May 3, 1925, to Walter and Verna (Griese) Bengs. When she as 1 years old, they moved to Reynolds, ND . She attended school at Pleasant View Country School through 8 th grade and then attended 2 years of high school in Grand Fork, ND. She obtained her diploma through correspondence courses from NDSU in Fargo, ND. Out of high school she lived in Grand Forks and worked for FW Woolworth Company.
On December 12, 1946, she married Kenneth Orville Schroeder at Holmes Evangelical Church in Holmes, ND. They rented a farm near Thompson, ND for 12 years; they raise dairy cattle, bottle lambs, chickens, geese, ducks, and raised grain. They then purchased a farm near St. Hilaire, MN; they switched to raising turkeys, up to 10,000 each year. They had laying hens and sold hatching eggs in the winter months, they also raised grain. Ruby enjoyed being a farm wife, she enjoyed running the combine and especially the large 4wheel drive Ford.
In 1983, Ruby began sewing for Thief River Linen and continued sewing for Scott and Linda Benston for many years making custom bed linens that were sold across the world (She even sewed a pair of boxers and a robe many years ago for President Donald Trump).
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls and worked with the White Cross Ministry for many years. Ruby enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking bread and opening her home to family and friends. Her grandkids and great granddaughters were very precious to her, and she always enjoyed when they would come to visit. She also had a soft spot for the many dogs that have come into her home over the years.
Ruby is survived by her daughters: Ruth (Dick) Kennedy of Plainfield, IN; Myrna Rian of Fountain City, WI; Mary Szigety of St. Hilaire, MN; Son-in-law William "Bill" Marfell of Fergus Falls, MN; Grandchildren: Ben (Lora) Marfell, Michael Rian, David (Erin) Rian, Jennifer (Levi) Dyrud, Ashley (Jacob) Heppner; Great-Granddaughters: Abigail & Emma Marfell; Grandchildren-in-law Michelle (Troy) Wittenburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years; her parents; Kenneth's parents; daughter Amy Marfell, sons-in-law Steph Rian and Mike Szigety; grandson Jonathan Marfell; brothers Eugene Bengs and Alvin Bengs; sisters Dorothy Kosizety and Lorraine Schendel.
