Russell Bergh, 81, of Gully, MN died on Tuesday, August 18, 1998 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND. Arrangements with Petterson Funeral home in Oklee, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 1998 at 11:00 AM in Lund Lutheran Church in Gully, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen Officiating. Burial will be held in the Lund Lutheran Cemetery near Gully.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday ONLY.
Russell Malvig Bergh was born February 4, 1917 at Hallock, MN son of Henry and Esther (Malvig) Bergh. He moved with his parents at an early age to a farm near Gully, MN where he lived most of his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully. He attended school at Sunnyside School, Gully School and Gonvick High School. In his younger years, he was a member of the Gully baseball team. He served in the US Army from June 1941 until November of 1945 when he received his honorable discharge. He served in the pacific area in the Philippines including New Guinea and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Russell was a member of the American Legion post in Clearbrook, MN.
Russell was a great gardener, raising a huge garden of vegetables and fruit, which was given to his friends and relatives. He also planted several rows of flowers and loved to bring a bouquet to someone.
He is survived by three sisters: Hazel Lee of Ocala, FL; Iona Berry of Oklee, MN and Blanche Robbins of Minneapolis, MN: one sister in law June Bergh of Gully, MN 13 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and two great great nephews.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Grace Brekke and one brother Sanford Bergh.
