Russell Elseth Newfolden, MN age 68, passed away at his home in Newfolden, MN, on November 12, 2014. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM with military honors at 4:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #2793 and the American Legion Post #117 of Thief River Falls. Russell Keith Elseth was born June 9, 1946 at Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Raymond Milford and Evelyn Gladys (Johnson) Elseth. He was baptized at Verna Myhrer's by Reverend Thorvald Myhrer and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. He grew up and attended Marshall County Community School and graduated in 1965. He worked after school in Hopkin's Red Owl. After graduating, Russell entered the United States Navy, April 3, 1968 and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged February 7, 1970. He was united in marriage to Connie Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Russell worked at the Arctic plant in Karlstad, MN for four years, then moved to Strandquist, MN where he worked at Drayton Beet plant for three years. He moved to Newfolden, MN in 1975 and worked driving fork lift in the freezer at the Turkey plant in Thief River Falls, MN until his accident in spring of 1992. Russell was a life member of Thief River Falls VFW, a volunteer in Newfolden Fire Department for many years, served on A.D.A. Council at Warren, MN for 2 years and served as a trustee on the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council. Survived by daughter, Marthanna "Marty" Rhae (Cordell) Klamar, Roseau, MN; son, Brent Russell (Janelle) Elseth, Ada, MN; and granddaughter, Jasmine Elseth; nephew, Jeffrey (Sherri) Larson of Minneapolis, MN; and niece, Joy (Mike) Dartley of Texas. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Bonita Rhae Larson; and brother, Dale Allen Elseth.
