Russell Heden, age 88, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, MN with Dawn Hanson Officiating. Burial will follow at Ekelund Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, MN. Russell Heden was born January 18, 1927 at Highlanding, MN son of Ernest and Rhoday (Thompson) Heden. He was raised in the Highlanding area and attended school at Highlanding School. Russell farmed the home farm all of his life. At a dance in Plummer, MN Russell met Anne Marie Kees and the couple was united in marriage on June 3, 1971 by Bennet Larson, Justice Of The Peace, in Oklee, MN. The family made their home and farmed south of Highlanding, MN. They continued to live on the farm until moving to Thief River Falls, MN in 2002 and lived at Skylite Apartments and in 2006 they both moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Anne Marie passed away on May 1, 2007. Russell enjoyed riding his motorcycle in his younger years, dancing, visiting the neighbors and playing cards. He also enjoyed hunting and reloading his own ammo, fishing and spending time in his garden. He would make things out of wood for the grandkids. Survivors include four children, Mary (Charles) Tio of Biloxi, MS, Larry Weber of Goodridge, MN, Shirley (Les) Schmit of Red Lake Falls, MN and John Heden of Stillwater, MN: grandchildren Robert (Melissa) Tio, Steve Weber, Amanda (Mike) Smith, Katie Weber, April Schmit, Nick (Megan) Schmit and Alec Schmit: great-grandchildren Morgan Rose Schmit, Carter Schmit, Elayna Moreno, Grayson Schmit, Jerren Chaske, Maci Moreno, Brienne Smith, Levi Smith,: siblings Olai Heden of Audubon, MN, Joyce Hardecopf of Oklee, MN, and Eloise Halvorson of Nashwauk, MN, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne Marie and granddaughter Rose Marie Heden sister Myrtle Drager, brothers Gust Heden and Milo Heden.
