Russell Landrus was born on October 3, 1959 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and passed away on October 2, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
On December 20, 1989, Russell married the love of his life, Sandy (Sandra) Landrus. Together, they shared many years of love, memories, and family.
Russell was a proud veteran who served his country and carried that pride with him throughout his life. He was a hardworking man who held many jobs over the years, including working for SpeeDee Delivery and as a truck driver. Driving was more than just a job for Russell—it was a passion. He loved being behind the wheel and the freedom and adventure that came with it.
Russell also had a great love for Arctic Cat snowmobiles. He enjoyed collecting them and sharing his enthusiasm for snowmobiling with others. His interests, stories, and the things he enjoyed brought him many friendships and countless memories throughout his life.
Russell is survived by his children, Darrin (Tonia) Weigel, Jason (Heather) Weigel, and Jamie (MaryLee) Weigel; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Glen Landrus and David Landrus; sisters, Gail Garner and Bonnie Landrus; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra “Sandy” Landrus; granddaughter, Alexandra Ellingson; and his mother, Margaret Landrus.
Russell leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, friendships, and family moments that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His love of family, driving, snowmobiles, and the people around him will be remembered for years to come. Rest easy, Russell. May your next road be long, peaceful, and filled with open skies. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at American Legion Post 117 in Thief River Falls, MN with military honors at 5:00 PM. Military honors for Russ will be provided by American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793, and National Guard Funeral Honor Guard.
