Russell Solberg, 75, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center with friends and family at his side.

The funeral to celebrate Russell's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Larry Myhrer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Oklee.

Russell Myles Solberg was born October 30, 1944 in Thief River Falls, MN to Garvin and Irene (Swanson) Solberg. He attended country school in Wyandotte Township. In his late teens, he went to live in Brainerd and then Fergus Falls for a time. He returned to Thief River Falls in the '70s and resided at Hanson's Boarding Home, later moving to Sunwood Home.

Russell worked many jobs at the DAC in Thief River Falls. He loved all animals, especially horses. Russell enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics. He loved going to Lake of the Woods for summer outings. Russell was always a happy, outgoing, kind person and brought joy to those around him.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, infant sister LaVonne, brother-in-law Denny Decker, and nephew David Decker.

He is survived by his sisters Carol Decker of Sedgwick, KS and Frances Olimb of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Maynard (Darla) Solberg of Thief River Falls, MN; nephews, Dominic (Luella) Solberg and Kirk (Amanda) Olimb; nieces Debi (Chip) Hutchinson, Diane (Vince) Goebel, Katie Solberg (Dustin Miller), Rachel (Bryce) Richtsmeier, Jill Solberg, Madison Olimb, and Molly Olimb; great-nieces and great-nephews; housemates, Doug, Mary and LeAnn; the staff at Sunwood Home; and many other friends and relatives.
