Russell "Bud" Zimpel of Plummer, MN, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home at the age of 86. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN, with Rev. John Bumgardner officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 from 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Russell "Bud" Robert Zimpel Jr. was born on June 10, 1928 in Red Lake Falls, MN, the son of Russell Zimpel Sr. and Hulda (Westerlund) Zimpel. Bud was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. He attended a country school in Red Lake County. On June 30, 1956 Bud was united in marriage to Arlene Rice in St. Cloud, MN, making their home in rural Red Lake Falls. In 1958 they moved to Plummer where they have since resided. Bud owned and operated Zimpel Construction for over 50 years, retiring in 2005. Bud's favorite pastimes included playing Rummy, fishing - mainly darkhouse spearing in the winter, hunting, puzzles, gardening, and enjoying time with friends and family - especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For over 25 years he was a member of the Plummer Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a past member of the Plummer Lions, Ducks Unlimited, and a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer. Bud is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene; children, Lynnelle (Roger) Gallant, Susan Zimpel, Nancy (Tom) Bray, and John Zimpel all of Plummer, MN, and Diane (Kevin) Bergeron of Warroad, MN; grandchildren, Adam Gallant, Jenni (Logan) Wallace, Shawna (Stacy Olson) Thorpe, Sara Lamun, Kevin Bray, Brittney Bray, Philip (Kyrsten) Zimpel, Kelley (CJ) Montesano, Joel Bergeron, Grant (CJ Dombroski) Paquin, Randi (Arne) Rantanen, Jace Bergeron, Jared Paquin, and Ty Bergeron; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Dolores Dale of Ft. Meyers, FL; nephew, Roy Dale Jr.; niece, Sandy (Larry) Rohlf; many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane, Jim and infant brother Richard; brother-in-law, Roy Dale Sr.
