Obituary

Ruth (Suonvieri) Fladeland, formerly of Red Lake Falls, MN, died Friday, November 26, 2021 at her home in Sun City, AZ. She was surrounded by her husband, Stanley Moe, daughter, Kimberly (Chris) Mercer, and niece, Sharon Rachunek, who provided her care in the last months of her life.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN, with Rev. Jeffrey Lytle officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.

Ruth Suonvieri Fladeland was born to Eino and Marie Suonvieri on December 28, 1944 in Floodwood, MN, the youngest of 7 children. Ruth graduated from high school in Floodwood, MN.

She married John Fladeland on February 12, 1965 in Moorhead, MN. Ruth was a partner to John for 37 years in farming, restaurants, and a paving company. Some of their greatest adventures came from their love of travel, custom combining and their adoption of Kimberly in 1972. Kimberly remembers her mother as a hard working woman of great faith, who believed profoundly in hope and staying positive.

She was highly competitive, which is why she loved cards and sports. She was a true friend, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Ruth was described by her 4 step-children as a tough Finlander, renowned as an arm-wrestling champion, a perfectionist in how she kept her home, a great cook, and lover of scary ghost stories.

After John's passing, Ruth met and married Stanley Moe on January 2, 2005. They made their home in Sun City, AZ. Ruth and Stan enjoyed traveling between Seattle, Minnesota, and Sun City spending time with friends and family.

Ruth loved playing cards, decorating her home, doing water aerobics, entertaining friends, thrifting, and watching sports, especially football. Ruth was the Arizona Cardinals #1 fan.

Ruth was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran in Red Lake Falls, MN, where she was a faithful participant in bible studies and worship. In Sun City, she attended Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church. Her bible was well worn from years of bible study, the margins filled with comments noting passages of significance to her. One passage that was highlighted truly embodied how she lived her life. 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And these three remain, faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Helen Tveit, Myrtle Lindquist, Evelyn Rachunek and Hazel Sippo and a brother, George Suonvieri.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Stanley Moe, her daughter Kimberly (Chris) Mercer, step-children Pam Rodriguez, John (Karen) Fladeland, Risha (Kevin) Murray and Harvey (Lori) Fladeland, Stewart (Laura) Moe, Stacy Cowell, 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roy (Marion) Suonvieri.
