Ruth Barbara (Solvik) Helm, age 82, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at the Thief River Care Center.

Ruth was second born out of eight siblings, in Marshall County, Warren, MN on October 24, 1942, to Edi and Alice (Wimpfheimer) Solvik.

Ruth graduated from Warren High School in 1961.

On Saturday, October 14, 1961 Ruth married Roger Helm at the home of Roger's parents Lloyd and Esther Helm, of rural Angus, MN.

While Roger was serving in the Navy, based in Japan, they were blessed with a son Matthew, born June 12, 1969.

Ruth enjoyed gardening with vegetables and flowers; she even grew tomato plants in her apartment. Ruth and Roger enjoyed traveling with their travel trailer and living in different states with their son Matthew. Ruth enjoyed helping her sister Donna with quilt ideas; she enjoyed solving Sudoku Puzzles, crocheting and creating greeting cards for family and friends. Over the years she spent a lot of time studying Bible scriptures with Roger and also on her own. While under the care of The TR Care Center and The Hospice of The Red River Valley, Ruth enjoyed the many visits from Pastor Ollie Urdahl, Hospice Chaplain Craig, and Hospice nurse Patty.

Forever loved, Ruth will be missed by her siblings, sister Muriel Kaml, brother Ed (Butch) Solvik, sister Sandy (Tom) Schmidt, sister Donna Gallagher and brother Lawrence (Pete) (Sandra) Solvik; Special friend Lester Johnson and good friend Ila Bromell; brothers-in-law Dennis Helm and Ron (Sue) Helm, sister-in-law Betty Helm, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Roger (October 26, 2016), son Matthew (April 27, 2008), parents Edi and Alice Solvik, in-laws Lloyd and Esther Helm, brother Olaf Solvik, sister June Seward, brothers-in-law Les Seward, Otto Kaml, Jr and Michael Gallagher, and sister-in-law Gwen Solvik.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating.  Her resting place will be at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN. Directions -  North on 59, 3 miles past Viking Rd, (Sign in Ditch) west 3 miles and north 1mile.
