Obituary

Samuel Honebrink, 87, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the St. Benedicts Senior Community in St. Cloud, MN.

A memorial service will be 10:30 AM, June 6, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Aaron Zuch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service

Samuel Asher Honebrink was born on March 27, 1921 in Rice Lake, WI to William and Gudrun (Nord) Honebrink. He grew up in Sauk Rapids, MN and graduated high school in Sauk Rapids.

Sam was united in marriage to Myrtle Mickey Geske on June 19, 1942 in Grand Forks, ND. They made their home in Thief River Falls, MN. Shortly after Sam and Mickeys marriage, Sam joined the US Army. He served his country during WW II throughout the European Theater as a radar crewman, Techanician Fifth Grade.

Sam worked most of his life for the school district in Thief River Falls as a bus mechanic and driver. Sam moved in August of 2007 to the St. Benedicts Senior Community in St. Cloud, MN to be closer to his family.

Sam volunteered and served on the Inter county nursing board for many years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, watching international TV sports and news programs He enjoyed his daily conversations with the coffee clutch at McDonalds for many years in the morning. In St. Cloud he looked forward to his Sunday morning family breakfast at the Copper Lantern. He also enjoyed small engine repair and carpentry projects as well as amateur aviation. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Thief River Falls and St. Johns Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two children, Dr. Steven (Marilyn) Honebrink, St. Cloud, MN, Ashlyn (Larry) Hall, Minot, ND, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two sisters, Carol (Harold) Gerdes, Rochester, MN, Kathryn (Larry) Mellema, Ione, CA, sister in law Alyce Geske, Thief River Falls, MN, brother in law Lloyd Geske, St. Paul, MN and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle on September 10, 2007, parents, 3 brothers, John, Eric, and ErnieHonebrink.

Sam thought of St. Benedict's as his home and was pleased and happy to live there. As a family we extend our special and memorable thank you to all who cared for him and cared for his home.

Memorials are preferred to St. Benedicts Senior Community Center, 1810 Minnesota Blvd SE St. Cloud, MN 56304
