Sharon Burkholder, 77, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Sharon was born on April 15, 1947, to Ival and Wanda (Fuglseth) Bennes in Crookston, Minnesota. She grew up in rural Fertile, Minnesota, where she was baptized and confirmed at Little Norway Church. Sharon attended school in Fertile and graduated from high school in 1965. She went on to study at Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota and began her career working for accounting firms.

On October 30, 1971, Sharon married James Paul Burkholder at Little Norway Church. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where they shared a love of snowmobiling during the winters while Jim worked at Arctic Enterprises. They also enjoyed traveling together and building lasting friendships within their community.

Sharon had a gift for nurturing others and cared for the children of several families over the years. She remained a steadfast supporter of her friends' families, attending school events, graduations, and other milestones with joy and encouragement. Sharon also found great pleasure in baking and cooking for those around her, as well as being adept at handiwork, especially tatting.

Sharon was very active at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and contributed her time and talents to Wednesday night suppers, Bible studies, and quilting projects. Her pastor fondly remarked that "The Lord worked through Sharon to provide many meals," reflecting her generous spirit and dedication to serving others.

Sharon is survived by her godson Rod Gamme of Minneapolis; her brother Byron (Justine) Bennes of Bismarck, North Dakota; nephew: Matthew (Shay), and their children, Isaiah and Brayden, and niece, and Amanda (Douglas) Morse all of Bismarck, ND; and other relatives and friends including close friends Jessica Hofstad and Steve Dahl. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2012 and her parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the funeral service to celebrate Sharon's life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Alex Amiot officiating.

Burial to follow at Little Norway Cemetery in rural Fertile, Minnesota.
