Shelley was born October 28, 1970 in Thief River Falls, MN. She was baptized at Radium, MN. She grew up and attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1989. She was employed in Thief River Falls.

Shelley held membership in the Girl Scouts when younger. She liked to fish, collect Princess Diana memorabilia, watch the Vikings, Twins and Minnesota Wild, garden and working at the Eckstein Greenhouse in Red Lake Falls. She especially loved her dog, Flash and cat, Meow Meow.

Survived by special friend, Melvin Eckstein, Red Lake Falls, MN; parents, Harold and Joyce Arneson, Thief River Falls and Larry Flaten, Hatton, ND; 2 brothers, Darrel (Shawn) Flaten and Mark Flaten; grandparents, Ann Newland, all of Thief River Falls, MN and Ella Flaten, Portland, ND and nephew Allan Langlie, Thief River Falls. Also surviving are several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by grandmother, Eloise Arneson and grandfathers, Norman Newland, and Hilman Flaten.
