Obituary

Shirley Ann Johnson, a cherished member of the Thief River Falls community, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Born on December 1, 1938, in Warren, MN, Shirley’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a kind spirit.

Shirley devoted many years working at the Heritage Community Center in Thief River Falls, where she contributed her talents in the craft shop, sharing creativity and joy with those around her. She also was known for her diligent work as a cleaner at Forsberg’s Inc., always approaching her duties with care and pride.

On June 29, 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Darrell Johnson in Newfolden, MN. Together, they made Thief River Falls their home, building a life filled with love and companionship. Darrell preceded Shirley in death in April 2006, leaving cherished memories of their years together.

Shirley found happiness in her hobbies and interests, which included collecting, exploring garage sales, and enjoying games of bingo. These pastimes reflected her lively spirit and her enjoyment of community and friendship.

She is survived by her brother Ronald “Ron” Holmstrom, along with many cousins, other relatives, and friends who will carry forward her memory with affection. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Darrell Johnson, her parents Ernest and Gladys Holmstrom, and many other relatives and friends who were dear to her.

A Memorial Gathering to honor Ron Holmstrom and Shirley Johnson will be held on June 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service, located at 420 North Labree Avenue in Thief River Falls, MN. 

Shirley Ann Johnson’s life touched many through her work, her family, and her joyful pursuits. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
