Shirley Tudy Efteland Austad, 60, died Thursday, December 19, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, December 23, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 4 " 8 PM, Sunday, December 22, 2002 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Shirley Tudy Efteland was born November 15, 1942, in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Earl and Eunice (Nelson) Efteland. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. She grew up and attended school in Thief River Falls.

Shirley was united in marriage to Arnold Ness. Later she married Ray Austad. In the 1970s, Shirley was employed at several places in Thief River Falls. In 1990, she began working at the Rusty Nail in Thief River Falls.

Shirley enjoyed crossword puzzles, darts, fishing, collecting Mickey Mouse, watching Little House On The Prairie , Wheel Of Fortune and The Price Is Right and especially spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Thief River Falls.

Survived by children, Roy Pooky Bear (Janell) Ness, Middle River, MN and Dawn (Jeff) Benke, Newfolden, MN; 6 grandchildren, Alan Ness, Jessica Snoozer , Adam and Ashley Benke, Matt and Jon Linder; mother, Eunice Efteland, Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Larry (Sharon), Curt and Jim (Judy) Efteland, all Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Darlene (Jerry) Olson, Newfolden, MN and Nancy (Kevin) Shafer, Cloquet, MN along with several nieces and nephews.
