Sidney Joseph Bergeron of Oklee, MN, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, MN, at the age of 95. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN, with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Interment will held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in the summer of 2015. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN. Sidney Joseph Bergeron was born on September 2, 1919, at home in Red Lake County, MN, one of ten children born to Louis U. Bergeron and Rose (Gibeau) Bergeron. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Sidney attended the Turgeon Elementary Country School through eighth grade. Sidney first served his country in the United States Naval Reserve for one year. He entered into service with the United States Army, proudly serving his country for four years during World War II in the Panama Canal. Following his honorable discharge, Sidney lived and worked in Los Angeles, CA. While there, he also studied diesel engineering. Sidney returned to his roots in Minnesota. He purchased a farm between Brooks, MN, and Oklee, MN. For his entire working life he happily worked on his farm. Sidney also worked in construction and machinery repair. Later he moved into Oklee where he lived until he aged, eventually moving to McIntosh, MN, where he passed away. Sidney was known for the beautiful garden that he tended to at his home in Oklee - and for his greatest achievement from that garden - sauerkraut. His other hobbies included fishing, playing cards - especially Smear and Whist, reading magazines, and hunting. He was a lifelong member of St. Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN. Sidney is survived by his siblings Theresa Grahek-Lucken of Hopkins, MN, Margaret (Ken) Lininger-Musolf of Mesa, AZ, Ambrose Bergeron of Oklee, MN, and Yvonne McElmury of Rushford, MN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Rose, two sisters, Adelle Bergeron and Delia Magee; three brothers, infant Henry, Henry, and George; sister-in-law, Sofi Bergeron; brother-in-law, Lane Magee, Ed Lucken, and Donald McElmury.
