Sidney Culkins, 76, died on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh, MN.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Clearwater Cemetery, Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Monday, December 30, 2002 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN and at the Funeral Home one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Sidney Culkins was born on July 7, 1926 in Smiley Township, Pennington County, Minnesota, the son of Patrick and Ruth (Larson) Culkins. He was baptized and confirmed at Clearwater Lutheran Church near Plummer, MN and attended school in District #51 in Pennington County and also in St. Hilaire. Sidney joined the United States Army Air Force, serving during World War II. Following his Honorable Discharge Sidney returned to the Family Farm. He also worked at Weiner Motors as a salesman and Federal Crop Insurance as an adjuster. Most of his life Sidney farmed with his two brothers on the Home Farm.

He enjoyed fishing, working with animals and driving around looking at the crops.

Sidney was a member of the Farmers Union and the National Farmers Organization.

Sidney is survived by his brother, Russell (Thelma) Culkins of Thief River Falls, MN; two nephews: Kevin (Wendy) Culkins of New River, AZ and Brian (Marcia) Culkins and their children, Jonas and Megan of Otsego, MN; one niece, Lynne (Kenneth) Law of Phoenix, AZ; one aunt, Stella Culkins of Williston, ND; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Randall Culkins and Donald Culkins.

Military Honors by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793, both of Thief River Falls.
