Obituary

Simon Schmitz, 26 of Red Lake Falls died on November 11, 2010 in Montevallo, Alabama where he planned to return to college Spring Semester of 2011.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck Huck officiating. Burial will be at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN

Simon's family would like to invite the Lafayette High School Class of 2003 to act as honorary pallbearers at Simon's funeral service on Wednesday.

Simon Joseph Schmitz was born on May 28, 1984 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Terry and Mary Jo (King) Schmitz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Simon attended elementary school at St. Josephs School and high school at Lafayette High School, graduating with honors in 2003. While growing up in the Red Lake Falls area Simon enjoyed playing the guitar, and participated in hockey, baseball and football. Simon was a friend to everyone.

After high school, Simon enrolled at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls. It was there that he discovered his passion for fine arts. In May of 2005 Simon graduated with an AA degree from Northland. Wanting to pursue his interest in the arts, Simon moved to Montevallo, Alabama to attend the University of Montevallo where he planned to focus on sculpture and painting.

Simon will always be known for his great smile and warm personality. He enjoyed painting, sculpting, cooking and doing imitations of people. His family describes him as a People Magnet, as people were drawn to him.

Survivors include Simons parents, Terry and Mary Jo of Red Lake Falls, MN; sisters and brother, Sara (Jason) Kenfield of Red Lake Falls, MN, Samuel Schmitz of New York, NY and Amelia Schmitz of Grand Forks, ND; niece and nephews, Taylor, Kaydon and Quinnlyn Kenfield of Red Lake Falls, MN; grandmother, Helen G. Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN; special friend, Sky Johnson of Montavallo, Alabama and several aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
