Sophia Laidley, 97, died on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Thief River Care Center, in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Phil Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from Noon " 2 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Sophia Hess Metheny was born on May 16, 1912 to Albert and Mary (Stuart) Metheny on the family farm near Warren. She grew up and attended country school in Warren, MN.

Sophia was united in marriage to Roy William Laidley on February 2, 1932 on her fathers farm. They made their home on a farm south of Newfolden, MN where Sophia has lived until a month ago. She enjoyed her farm life and worked side by side with her husband with the cattle and haying. She liked sweets and enjoyed her time visiting with her family with a good cup of coffee with sugar. She grew large gardens and enjoyed canning and made some great pickles. She also canned lots of fruits and jellies. She was a homebody who didnt venture out much. She enjoyed the simple things in life.

Roy died in 1971 and she continued her life on the farm.

Sophia is survived by 3 children: Maxine (LaVerne) Filpula, Thief River Falls, MN, Beverly Kezar, Minneapolis, MN, Duane (Frances) Laidley, Newfolden, MN, 20 grandchildren,30 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Betty Lou and husband Bill Koebernick, son Maynard and wife Beatrice Laidley, granddaughter Cindy Gaddie, 3 sisters Mary, Betty, Jessie, 3 brothers Albert, Dan, and Kelly.
