Susan Jeannine Ahlberg was born in Duluth, MN, on March 29, 1970, the daughter of Allen Porter and Carol Jean Ahlberg. She grew up in Superior, WI, and graduated from Superior High School in 1988. Following high school she attended two years at her local community college to obtain her Supervisory and Nursing degree.
Susie was not afraid of work - prior to becoming a nurse, Susie worked at Canal Park Lodge on Canal Park in Duluth. Susie was instrumental in helping to get the lodge in order, for business. While working there she performed many job descriptions, working many long hours.
In 2012 Susie moved to Thief River Falls and enrolled for college at Northland Community and Technical College to continue her nursing degree. After graduation she was employed by the Thief River Care Center from 2014 until just after covid started – she became ill and never truly recovered.
Susie had a green thumb and kept the outside of her home beautiful with all her flowers.
She loved to travel with her husband, Greg in the semi. She was always ready to go "bye bye." Through all her travels, Susie only had 8 states left to see, which she will now get to see.
In her spare time Susie enjoyed playing a few slots, but not with her own money. She also loved a good horse or dog race once in awhile. Susie would be the happiest person in the whole place when she would pick the winner on a dollar ticket. It wasn't about the money – it was about the determination of the animal.
Susie's favorite place was on the beach, fulfilling her love of seashells. For each seashell she picked, she remembered the names of all the places they came from. When around the beach, Susie would get up before the sun and head to the water. And when she got the chance to vacation in Fort Myers Beach, FL, she was like a little kid again. This was her true happy place.
Susie was united in marriage to Greg Lord in Key West, FL, on November 11, 2016. Susie had met him in her sophomore year of high school when he stood up for her on the school bus when people were picking on her because of her weight. Greg gave her a seat next to him. Back then, they took different paths in life, but with the help of Facebook, they were able to meet once again. Susie said from that day on she would never let him go, and she didn't. Greg took care of her to the very end. It was the last thing he could do for her in repayment for all she did for him.
Susie was never judgmental of anyone. Everyone has a life story and she was willing to listen. Once you met Susie, you couldn't ever forget her. She would never forget you in return. Her favorite saying was, "We all have a time and date stamp on our ass of when it's our time to go, but we can't see it." So live life every day. Susie truly loved you all!
Susie is survived by her husband, Greg Lord; two daughters, Jenna Christine Arnold and her husband, Mcquade William Arnold of Lakeside CA, and Taylor Cristyn Ahlberg of Superior, WI; three grandchildren, Hudson Allen, Colton Douglas, and Mckenna Jean.
Susie is Preceded in death by her parents, Carol Ahlberg and Allen "Big Al" Porter.
