Sybil "Sy" Heath Thief River Falls, MN age 81 died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls, MN. The funeral service for Sy will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Sybil Kathleen Torgerson was born on July 16, 1932 at her grandparent's home in Excel Township, Marshall County, MN the daughter of Melvin and Amanda (Skomedal) Torgerson. Sybil was baptized and confirmed at Silver Creek Lutheran Church in Excel Township. She attended country school in Agder Township, Marshall County and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN in the class of 1949. Sy worked for a time at the Thief River Falls Co-op Creamery. In the mid-1950s moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked for General Mills, Anchor Paper, Marquette Mfg., and Piper Temp. On February 9, 1962 Sy was united in marriage to Merlin Heath in Little Falls, MN and the couple made their home in the Circle Pines area of the Twin Cities. Merlin had a concrete and masonry business where Sy was the bookkeeper and accountant. In 1985 Sy and Merlin moved to Duluth, MN and lived at Pike Lake where they started Town & Country Builders which they owned and operated for many years. While living in Duluth they were members of Grace Lutheran Church. Sy was a member of Silver Creek Lutheran Church while living in the Thief River Falls area. She had many interests including the flower gardening, rosemaling, outdoors, sports, crossword puzzles and music. She was an avid reader. Survivors include her 3 siblings, Jarvis (Martha) Torgerson, Grace (Don) Jorde and Philip Torgerson all of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers-in-law, Vernon Heath and Elton Heath; sisters-in-law, Clarice Nitti, Judy Carling, Verna "Pinky" Pendergrass, and Faye Deuel; several nieces, nephews and cousins; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin in 1995; parents; and nephew, Dean Torgerson.
