Tena Nelson, 103, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home, Roseau, MN

Tena Marie Scramstad was born December 31, 1901, on the family farm at Thief Lake, MN, the daughter of Tollef and Martha (Hanson) Scramstad. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the Thief Lake Church. She grew up and attended country school near Thief Lake, and worked in Grand Forks until her marriage

On July 15, 1925, Tena was united in marriage to Ernest Nelson at Warren, MN. They made their home in the Gatzke area in Rollis Township, where they farmed. They had dairy cows and farmed small grains. In 1994, Tena moved to the Blair House in Grygla. From November 2004 through February 2005, Tena lived in Warroad and Roseau, MN.

Tena held membership with the Grygla Senior Citizens. She enjoyed picking berries, ice fishing and she loved her vegetable garden. She enjoyed her mail, both receiving and writing letters. Tena enjoyed going for rides in the countryside, playing cards, bingo and Rumikub.

Survived by daughters, Elaine Luoto, Roseau, MN and Maxine (Marvin) Larson, Menomonie, WI; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 2 nephews; 2 nieces and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Nelson, Gatzke, MN.

Preceded in death by husband, Ernest in 1970, sons, Leonard in 1984 and Duane in 1986, parents, 2 brothers, 8 sisters, daughter-in-law, Joanne Nelson and son-in-law, Martin Luoto.
