Theodore Haugen, 91, of Plummer, MN died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery, Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer service on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church.
Theodore Garfield Haugen was born on the family farm in Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, MN on February 14, 1917 the 12th child of 15 born to David and Caroline (Omoth) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clearwater Lutheran Church north of Plummer, MN and attended country school in Wyandotte Township.
Ted lived through some trauma in his life, at the age of 14 he accidentally shot himself with a .22 pistol and he continued to carry that bullet his entire life. Ted also broke his back when he was sledding near Fosston.
Ted worked on the family farm until moving to Duluth, MN in the early 1950s where he worked for an electronic repair business. In 1955 Ted went to work for the University of Minnesota, Duluth where he worked as a Maintenance Engineer.
On September 5, 1953 Ted was united in marriage to Ardith Louise Hanson in Plummer, MN and the couple made their home in Duluth until they separated. Ted continued to work at UMD until retiring in 1982 and then moved to Plummer in 1992.
In his retirement he enjoyed working on and repairing anything and everything that people brought to him. There was nothing that Ted could not fix or try to fix. He has worked on TVs, VCRs, clocks, watches, appliances, automobiles, lawnmowers and almost anything with moving parts. He also enjoyed deer hunting, attending work reunions in Duluth at the UMD and family reunions in Washington, Colorado, Minnesota and Wyoming.
Ted was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer.
Survivors include three children, Claudia (Steve) Fornshell of Carrington, ND and Thief River Falls, MN, Steven (Marleen) Haugen of Thief River Falls, MN, and David (Teresa) Haugen of Plummer, MN; 8 grandchildren, AnMarie (Erick) Erickson, Clayton, Dustin and Lucas Fornshell, Justin and Jordan Haugen, Shania and Shelby Haugen; one great-grandson, Jonathon Erickson and three more great grandchildren on the way; brothers, Sigurd Haugen of Eveleth, MN and Clarence Bud (Adeline) Haugen of Snohomish, WA; sisters-in law: Ann Newland and Alma Hanson all of Thief River Falls, MN and Betty (Frank) Knoll and JoAnn (Maynard) Layman all of Warren, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Ardith Zimpel; sisters, Hannah, Corrine and Gina; brothers, Harold, Albert, Benhard, Christian, Daniel, Carl, Harry, Olaf and Lloyd; brothers and sister-in-law; Harold and Helen Hanson, Art Hanson, Clarence Hanson and Norman Newland and nieces and nephews
