Thomas Tommy Whalen, 28, died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, June 18, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father John Kleinwachter presiding. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Oklee.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday, June 17, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

Tommy was born September 21, 1981 to Tim and Linda (Champagne) Whalen in Thief River Falls, MN. He attended school in Oklee, MN. Although Tommy didn't graduate from high school, he was a wonderful teacher. Tom didn't care about a person's skin color, financial status, or a brand of clothing. He judged a person by what was in their heart.

Tommy loved teasing his siblings. Tom, along with his brothers, loved to get a rise out of their sisters. Tom loved playing with his nieces and nephews, watching the Nutty Professor and the Three Stooges and playing with his many, many monkeys, gorillas and orangutans. He loved his cat, Moocher.

Tom loved Halloween and was happy to greet all the little munchkins. He and his mother spent hours making goody bags. Tom was a big believer in Santa Claus. He would always shake his hand and introduce himself with a "Hi, I'm Tom". Most of all, Tom loved riding in "the big red pick-up" with Dad. Often on their rides, they would stop at Cenex for a "Mandy Pizza and a diet coke. He was his Dad's constant companion. He will be greatly missed.

Tommy is survived by his parents, Tim and Linda Whalen, Oklee, MN; sisters, Christina (Martin) Sorenson, Holstad, Denmark and their children Ariel, Patrick, George and Oliver; Tiffany (Kevin) Tvedt, Red Lake Falls, MN and their children, Brock, Ryan and Kimberly (Scott) Grove, Oklee, MN and their boys, Zachary and Brady; Katherine (Bo) Tobiasen, Janderup, Denmark and their children Gavin and Gabriella; brothers, Terence (Sarah) Whalen, Oklee, MN and their children, Chase, Carlee and Timothy Whalen Jr, Oklee, MN; grandmother, Esther Whalen, Oklee, MN. Tom is also survived by his Godparents Angie and Dean Radniecki, Hoyt Lake, MN and special caregivers and friends, Joyce and David Austad, Oklee, MN.

He is preceded in death by grandparents: George Whalen and Bill and Norma Champagne and aunt, Sharon Carriere.
