Thora Gunderson, 99, of Fremont, CA, was received into the loving arms of our Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2007.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN with Reverend Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Clearwater Cemetery, rural Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the church.

Thora was born February 18, 1908 to Sam and Mary (Lande) Gunderson. She grew up on the farm her parents homesteaded in Equality Township in Red Lake County. She was baptized at Clearwater Lutheran Church and confirmed there on September 16, 1923. Thora became a member of the Oak Park Lutheran Church shortly after the Clearwater Lutheran Church closed. She remained a faithful member all of her life.

Thora worked on the home farm and then moved to Minneapolis and was later joined by her sister, Emma. They worked for several large department stores.

In 1942, Thora and her sister Emma ventured out to the wild west and settled in the San Francisco area. Sister Emma met her one true love and settled there and still lives there today. After about 1 year, Thora moved to Southern California and settled in Hollywood, California. For most of her working career she worked in some of the best known restaurants in and around Hollywood such as the Brown Derby, the Tick Tock, and the Scandinavian delight called Bit-Of-Sweden.

In 1973 she retired at age 65 and moved back to the San Francisco area to live with her sister and her sisters husband, Emma and Scott Sheffield, where she spent the last 34 years of her life. She is survived by her sister, Emma Sheffield, and nieces and nephews, Mabel Jacobson, Carol Maas, Sherman Gunderson, Arlene Berry, Dianne Gagner, Sheryl Wilde, Merlyce Lemley, Rene Hofstad, Gayle Hofstad, Scotty Sheffield, and Lolly Spencer, and many great/great-great nieces and nephews.
