Donald Anthony Brosseau was born on October 30, 1958 in Crookston, MN, the son of Lynn and Mary Lou (Gerou) Brosseau. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. While growing up Tony was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and trapping with his brothers and friends. Tony attended all schooling in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School with the class of 1977.
After graduation he traveled to Alaska where he lived in the Alaskan wilderness. Later, while attending college at Bemidji State University he worked summers for Alaska Gold Company in Nome, Alaska.
Tony lived an adventurous life. He once canoed from his family home on the Thief River to Eric Thorsgaard's family home on the opposite side of the river, from there they continued on all the way to Hudson Bay. In 1984 he started work for Osmose Wood Preserving Company, traveling around the United States and Canada contracting with power companies, returning to his Myrtle Lake home in the off seasons. In 1991 he teamed up once again with Eric and other friends and canoed from Reindeer Lake, Manitoba to the Arctic Ocean – a journey of 2,500 miles.
Tony enjoyed playing banjo, guitar, and the harmonica. He loved attending music festivals. Tony was an avid reader, reading everything from history to adventure to poetry.
Tony was always willing to help others. He rarely missed a holiday or family gathering. He was typically the last to leave, blessing the host family with more quiet time to visit after the crowd was gone. Tony hosted many family gatherings at his Myrtle Lake home. His now grown nieces and nephews have fond memories of times spent with Uncle Tony at "Tony's lake."
He will be remembered for the joy he brought and his adventurous spirit.
Tony is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Tim (Patti) Brosseau of Bottineau, ND, Tom (Kim) Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN, and Greg Brosseau of Thief River Falls, MN; sister, Kristie (David) Lansing of Warren, MN; brother-in-law, Bones Lavelle of Thief River Falls, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Brosseau; sister, Karen Lavelle; nephews, Steven Olson-Brosseau and Christopher Hill; and sister-in-law, Ann (Olson) Brosseau.
