Tressie Noreen of Thief River Falls, MN, died on Tuesday September 2, 2014 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN, at the age of 72. Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Greg Schram officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Lutheran Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 PM Friday, September 5, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to the service, Saturday. Theresa Helena Nygaard was born November 29, 1941 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Faiman) Nygaard. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Tressie attended Lincoln High School. During high school she worked at Parkinson's Drug and The Mint Café where she was first introduced to her future husband. On June 14, 1958, Tressie was united in marriage to Kenneth Gordon Noreen at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN. To this union 4 children were born: Michael, Luke, AnnaMarie and Cynthia. Kenny and Tressie worked together in their business, Noreen Masonry. Tressie owned and operated the Country Store on the airport road, she also worked at Carol's Café, K-Mart in Thief River Falls and Florida, managed a hotel in Denver, CO, did CNA work in Pine City, MN, and worked for the last 16 years at Dee's Kitchen with her daughters and family members. Tressie loved to hunt for a bargain at second-hand stores and flea markets - often setting up as a vendor in various locations. In her younger years she and Dolly Davidson would drop the kids off at school and head out for a full day of rummage sales. Tressie drove many miles to country auctions. She was also a member of the Tuesday Tootsie Rollers bowling league. Win or lose, she and Kenny were avid Twins fans. Tressie was very active in her grandkids lives - attending all of their functions and enjoyed teaching them how to bake and cook. She loved going for country rides with Kenny. She enjoyed her Wednesday lunch meetings with the lady classmates of 1959 and was looking forward to her reunion on September 13th. She also loved attending church and loved her church family. She was always sending cards and letters and looked forward to receiving them herself. Tressie will be remembered for her story telling of all events in her lifeshe enjoyed talking to everybody. She will be greatly missed. For sure, for sure. Survivors include her children, Mike Noreen, Warroad, MN, Luke (Sharon) Noreen, Thief River Falls, MN, Lisa (Jerry) Thompson and Cyn (Mark) Kaushagen both of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren: Kayla (Ryan) Bruggeman, Amanda (Jacob) Wilde, Michelle Noreen, Grace Thompson, Alexis (Nick) Nelson, Alison (Jeremy) Lian, Karissa, Gordy and Jonah Kaushagen; great-grandchildren: Nora and Miley Bruggeman, Kaylea Barron, Levi Wilde, Elijah Nelson, Jenna and Aubree Lian; siblings, Conley and Carol Nygaard of Fergus Falls, MN, Robert and Jeanette Nygaard of Thief River Falls, Fred and Melba Marquette of Port Charlotte, FL; many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenny; her parents; sister, Ramona Burns and her husband Lawrence Burns.
