Obituary


Tron Rudolf Fonnest was born April 28, 1908 near Grygla in Marshall County, MN, the son of Bordenious Benny and Margaida (Gaare) Fonnest. He was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church, near Grygla, MN in 1908. He attended school in Grygla. After finishing school, he worked for Oscar Schenkey on roadwork for three years. He then worked for Overvolds Chevrolet Motor Company in Middle River for seven years in sales.

He was united in marriage to Helen Wick on October 28, 1934 at Valle Lutheran Church in Grygla. The couple lived in Greenbush for one year where Tron operated a service station. They then moved to Middle River for a short time before moving to Grygla where he operated the Fladeland Garage. They then lived in Middle River for a short time again before moving to Thief River Falls in 1942 where Tron operated the Standard Oil Station for seven years. He then sold the oil station and began working at Northern Motors as a car salesman until the age of 72 in 1977. For a brief interlude he lived in Kenyon, MN from 1960 to 1963 where he also was a Chevrolet Sales Representative at Held Chevrolet. They also lived in Phoenix, AZ for one year in 1966, where Tron sold cars for Mecham Chevrolet.

Tron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, working with horses and home improvement projects.

Tron is survived by his wife Helen, Thief River Falls, MN; daughter, Rosalie (James) Wegge, Phoenix, AZ and son, Larry, Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Scott Wegge, Yuma, AZ, Kim (John) Dorso, Phoenix, AZ and Jacqueline (Jeff) Tumilson, Phoenix, AZ; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, son Richard in 1963, brother, Palmer; two sisters Adella (Alton) Anderson, Mae (Olaf) Wernes.
