Troy Carlson Baxter, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN age 43 died on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland and Rev. Ben Carlsen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Troy Dale Carlson was born on October 21, 1970 in Thief River Falls, MN the second of four children born to Charles and Kathryn (Breiland) Carlson. He was baptized at Unity Hospital in Grand Forks, ND and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Troy attended Northrup Elementary School, Franklin Middle School and graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1989. Troy then went on to attend Northland Community College and Moorhead State University where he graduated with honors and attained his Master's Degree in Psychology. At the age of 19, Troy started hemodialysis; at age 21 he received the gift of life, a kidney from an unknown donor. That kidney gave him life for 19 years when he resumed dialysis, this time at home. Troy began practice as a school psychologist in Algona, Iowa, and later practiced as a clinical psychologist at White Earth Health Center. In the fall of 2013, Troy moved to Baxter, MN and served as school psychologist in the Pequot Lakes public schools. Troy's life work was an expression of his remarkable awareness of life and of its value. He enjoyed his work enthusiastically; Troy's empathy and care was inexhaustible. In September of 2009, Troy was united in marriage to Jody Lindsay at their lake home in rural Detroit Lakes, MN. In November a daughter, Remmy Charles was born. Troy lovingly welcomed and adopted Jody's daughter, Marlow. Troy had a boundless love for his daughters! Troy loved gardening and the outdoors. He liked kayaking, spending time on the lake, and was always up for a great conversation. A lifelong learner, Troy enjoyed reading and listening to public radio. Troy thoroughly enjoyed sharing his time and projects with his daughters. Troy's, daddy daughter days spent with one daughter at a time gave both girls the special love he felt for them as individuals. His delightful smile and his warm, caring, and easy manner will be deeply missed. Survivors include his loving daughters, Marlow Hank Carlson and Remmy Charles Carlson, and their mother and Troy's best friend, Jody Carlson all of Brainerd, MN; parents, Chuck and Kathy Carlson of Thief River Falls, MN; siblings Todd (Heidi) Carlson of Thief River Falls, MN, Matthew (Katrina) Carlson of Mt. Juliet, TN, Sunny (Ryan) Wilde of Thief River Falls, MN; grandmother, Goldie Lamberson of Thief River Falls, MN; nieces and nephews, Grant and Maddie Stewart, Tegan and Levi Carlson and Karleen Wilde; God-parents, Dale Breiland and Lona Stearns; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Margie Prestebak, Alton Carlson, Tim Breiland and Howard Lamberson.
