Valerie Diana Engelman, 69, died at her residence in Thief River Falls, MN, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

Visitation will be held at 10 AM until 11 AM, Monday, December 12, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 11 AM on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at a later date in Landstad Cemetery, Rural Thief River Falls, MN.

Valerie Diana was born on July 7, 1953 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Bernie and Alice Seaverson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and graduated Lincoln High School in 1971.

She married James Amundgaard in 1971. To that union their two daughters, Kelly and Kimberly, were born.

On June 10, 1998 she married the love of her life, Chester (Chet) Engelman in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Valerie graduated Northland Technical & Community College in 1991 with her diploma in Practical Nursing. She worked for 30 years as a nurse in various settings, including Inter-County Nursing and Glenmore Recovery Center.

Valerie was known by all of her loved ones as incredibly compassionate and warmhearted. Her fondest memories were teaching Sunday School and being surrounded by her family. She accepted everyone with open arms and was always a place of comfort for others.

Valerie will be deeply missed by her daughters, Kelly Amundgaard of Fargo, ND, Kimberly Kostrzewski (Kirby Espe) of Thief River Falls; her step-children Kelly (Chuck) Leaming of Copperas Cove, TX, Larry (Lisa) Engelman of Las Vegas, NV; her son-in-law Carl Kostrzewski of Thief River Falls; her grandchildren, Filippo Bruno (Lisa Driscoll), Joseph (Marta) Bruno, Candice Bruno (Mirko Bertok), Alton (Stephanie) Engelman, Chrissy (Tom) Noble, Kempsie Amundgaard (Shelly Zeidlik), Lace Engelman, Jordan Kostrzewski (Gunnar Jesme), Ryleigh Kostrzewski; her great-grandchildren, Leo, River, Olivia, Nicholas, Evelyn, Emily, Elena, Marie, Alexander, Amelia, and Adele; her siblings Bruce (LaVonne) Seaverson, Warren Seaverson, and Bonnie Toulouse; as well as many nieces, nephews, foster grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Valerie is preceded in death by her husband Chester Engelman, her mother and father, Alice and Bernie Seaverson, and brother Roger Seaverson.

Valerie Diana Engelman passed away peacefully in her home on December 6, 2022 at the age of 69.
