Vanilla Nelle Nelson, 89, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at 10:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Gary Graff Officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 Prayer service at the Petterson Funeral Home and also one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
Vanilla Nelle Hildreth Marquis was born July 9, 1909 in Canton, Ill daughter of Harvey and Harriet (Gorsch) Marquis. The family moved to Jamestown, ND as a young girl and was baptized in 1928. The family lived in Warren, MN and then moved to Rosewood, MN. She married Alving Nelson on November 27, 1933 in Crookston, MN. In the mid 1940s they moved to Red Lake Falls. They attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN where she was an active member. She raised her family and sold Avon for a few years. She loved family activities and gardening.
Nelle is survived by her husband Al in Crookston, MN; children, Joan Burstad (Eldon) of Menomonee, WI; Marilyn Johnson (Marvin) of Jones, OK; Karen Moonen (friend Harry Bell) of Rush City, MN; Dianna Nelson (Dr. Owen) of Red Lake Falls, MN and Mark Nelson (Sharon) of Red Lake Falls, MN. 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eileen Rood and Frances Baily and her brothers Harvey Marquis and William Marquis.
