Verna Melby, 73 of Oklee, MN died on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh, MN. Arrangements with Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30 1999 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church Oklee, MN with Reverend Roland Saethre Officiating. Burial will be held in the Zion Cemetery near Oklee.

Visitation will be held on Thursday 5 " 8 PM at the Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Verna Ardella Melby was born September 27, 1925, in Oklee, MN, the daughter of Ole O. and Gertrude (Nesland) Melby. She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church of Oklee. She graduated from Oklee High School and worked in the Melby store until the store sold in 1978.
Verna was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church Circle. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir for several years. Verna loved children and was the happiest when celebrating the special events in their lives. She was a great supporter of school activities, and, with her candy treats for the fans, she was always present to cheer on her team. Verna was also a welcoming face at the Oklee bowling alley where she enjoyed visiting with everyone.
Although life was sometimes difficult, Verna has a strong faith that comforted her. Her family sincerely thanks the Oklee community for its warm friendship to Verna and the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh, MN, for its loving care.
Verna is survived by three sisters and one brother: Gladys Ewing of Thief River Falls, MN, Alice Boyd of Silver Spring, MD, Jeanette Anderson and Harold Melby (Beatrice) of Minnetonka, MN. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Betty (Tom) Melby of Oklee and Mildred (Orlo) Melby of Yuma, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katherine Gull and brother Thomas Melby and Orlo Melby.
