Verna Schroeder Thief River Falls, MN age 96, died peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Bumgardner, Preacher and Rev. Leo Deitemeyer, Liturgist. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church. Verna Elizabeth Marie Schroeder was born on February 20, 1919 in Fairfax, MN to parents Otto and Johanna (Gerardy) Schroeder. At the age of 2 she moved with her parents and sister, Dorothy to a farm north of Plummer, MN. Verna was baptized in Fairfax, MN and confirmed in 1932 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN by Pastor Paul Burgdorf. Verna attended Green Meadow Country School and then went on to Pershing High School, Plummer, MN graduating with the class of 1937. After high school Verna worked at many places caring for family members. She spent time at Eldred, MN at the Andrew and Victoria Dragseth's home, helping care for the children. Verna moved to Thief River Falls, MN in 1959 and worked as a nurse's aide caring for others at Oakland Park Nursing Home until her retirement. Verna was a kind and caring person who never left a job undone. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church at Plummer, but since living in Thief River Falls for the past 50+ years has attended St. John Lutheran Church. Verna was quite active in the Quilting Group. She was a woman of great faith. A highlight of Verna's life was a trip she took with her great niece, Teresa. They went to Germany, France and the Netherlands to visit her nephew, Ken Laufman. She enjoyed being in the outdoors on the farm, gardening and loved animals. Verna thought the world of all her nephews and nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews. She took pride in all their achievements. She is survived by niece, Judy (Joel) Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN and their son, Seth; nephew, Ron (Char) Laufman of West Fargo, ND and their family, Shane (Kristina) and their children, and Michael; niece-in-law, Yang Laufman and her daughter, Jenni Laufman of Crystal River, FL; great-niece, Teresa (Mike) Rumppe and their son, Joseph of Woodbury, MN; cousin, Phyllis (Bill) Malwitz of Fosston, MN; several other cousins; and many good and dear friends who were so kind to her.
