Vernon Nelson, 82, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Sanford Hospital, Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family by his side.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018, from 1 – 3 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.

Vernon Norman Nelson was born May 5, 1936 at Highlanding, MN, the son of Clarence and Mytle (Heden) Nelson.  He attended school through the 8 ^th grade.

In 1954 he was united in marriage to Violet Olson and had two children:  Terrance Nelson and Debbie Nelson.

In 2001 Vernon was united in marriage to Elaine Loberg.

Vernon was a mechanic, both in the fields of auto and small engine repair.

His hobbies included woodworking, playing bingo, visiting the casinos, and spending time with his brother, Kenny.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Deb (Daniel) Gombus; grandchildren, Terri Peterson, Shavon Nelson, Ashley LaBosco, Tara Motten, and Kaylene Larson; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Kenny Nelson; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by son, Terrance Nelson; parents, Clarence and Myrtle Nelson; step-mother, Mae Nelson; sisters, Doris Ostby, and Jenny Swenson
