Vernon Rystad, 76, of Red Lake Falls, MN formerly of Oklee, MN died on Thursday, December 09, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13, 1999 at 10:00 AM in Salem Lutheran Church near Oklee, MN with Reverend Robert Paulson Officiating. Burial will be held in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service at the Petterson Funeral home in Oklee and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Vernon Ellsworth Rystad was born May 16, 1923 son of Ole and Pauline (Vik) Rystad in Garnes Township, Red Lake County, MN. Where he was raised and attended school. Vernon was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church near Oklee, MN. On February 28, 1945 he entered the US Army and served until his honorable discharge on September 30, 1945. He returned to the family farm where he lived and worked until his retirement in 1970 due to ill health. He has resided at Hillcrest Nursing home in Red Lake Falls since March 14, 1997. Vernon enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Vernon is survived by his sister Myrtle Stoneouse (Mrs. Donald) of Oklee, MN: several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ole and Pauline Rystad, sisters Ann Brandvold and Thelma Dahle; brothers Olaf Rystad, Howard Rystad, Orvin Rystad, Elton Rystad and Melvin Rystad.
