Victor J. Nord, 87 of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Friday, February 25, 2011 beside, Doreen, his loving wife of 67 years.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Graff and Rev. Sheila Michaels Co-Officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.
Victor John Nord was born on April 17, 1923 in Churchs Ferry, ND the son of John and Irene (Dingman) Nord. He attended Irvine Country School and Minot State Teachers College, where he earned a Teaching Degree.
Victor enlisted into service with the United States Army and served from October 1942 until being Honorably Discharged in September 1945. He served during World War II as a scrub nurse, a job which he was very proud.
On July 6, 1943, Victor was united in marriage to Doreen Huffman in San Francisco, CA. To this union they had eight children, David, Sandra, Kenneth, Sherry, Pauline, Cindy, Kay and Lyle.
After his return from the service, Victor farmed in the Devils Lake, ND area until purchasing a farm near Plummer, MN in 1955. They moved to Red Lake Falls, MN in 1969. Victor worked at Detroiter Mobile Homes from 1962 until retiring as Production Superintendent in 1986.
Victor was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN where he served on the church council. He also served as President of the Plummer School Board for a term and was active with the Plummer American Legion. Since living in Red Lake Falls, Victor was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was active with the Bethany Mens Group. He was also a member of the Red Lake Falls American Legion and Lions.
Victor had a passion for fishing with his family and friends, and was always known for catching the first fish. Traveling with his family was also a passion during vacation time. He enjoyed travels to many places throughout the United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico and Spain. Victor did a lot of woodworking, he made most of the granddaughters a cedar chest. He cherished the time spent with his family and friends; and was a positive influence on everyone he came in contact with.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Doreen of Red Lake Falls, MN; children, David (Myrna) Nord of Warroad, MN, Sandra (Gail) Boice of Red Lake Falls, Pauline Nord of Crystal, MN, Cindy Nord of Staples, MN, Kay (Ryan) Kraulik of Stephen, MN; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Lyder Nord of Minot, ND; sister, Alice Johanson of Devils Lake, ND; sister-in-law, Joyce Nord of Devils Lake, ND; brother-in-law, Don Lannoye of Minot, ND; and many relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by three children, Lyle in 1982, Kenneth in 1997 and Sherry in 2005; grandson, Jonathan; brothers, Sidney and Marvin (Inger); sister, Lois Lannoye; brother-in-law, Harfred Johanson; sister-in-law, Gloria Nord.
